The Cartoon Gallery first opened its' doors at the Queen Victoria Building in the heart of Sydney, Australia on Saturday May 25, 1991. After 11 years, in March 2002, we moved to a much larger shop in the Imperial Arcade, Pitt Street Mall, Sydney. On May 27, 2006, the shop at Imperial Arcade closed, but this web site, started in 1998, continues to provide animation and anime products to clients around the world.
At the time of our opening, we were the first gallery in Australia to specialize in animation and comicstrip artwork. We sold original and limited edition art from studios such as Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera and a host of others.
About one year after we opened, the first of the anime otaku started arriving, wanting to know whether we could get our hands on various videos. At that time, there wasn't much to choose from in Australia. The only title released locally was "Akira", which was, and still is, the initial introduction to anime for many people. The film was such a visual feast that many people got hooked and wanted to know what other Japanese animation was available.
So began for us what has become a continuing quest: to provide our clients with the products which they want and the information which they need. We have a terrific supplier in the United States, plus access to all the local distributors in Australia.
In 1994, I started publishing a 24-page quarterly anime newsletter which provided a wealth of information about what was happening in the world of anime. This website, started in 1998, is the logical continuation of that process, with a database listing well over 4,000 different anime products.
You will find that I am an honest, reliable person to deal with. The fact that you are dealing with a retail outlet established in 1991, still run by the original owner, should be comforting to those of you concerned about doing business over the Internet. I look forward to hearing from you.
Enjoy!

Too hot for eBay!
As I was sorting through items for listing on eBay, I came across some adult product which I couldn't put there. Here is a list of those anime products. Please be aware that you must be over 18 years of age to order any of these items from me! I only have one of each of these. They are available now for immediate delivery.
Blu-ray anime DVDs
For those of you into the latest and greatest technology, here's a list of anime available on Blu-ray in the US and Australia. I will be updating this list about every two months to try to keep it current (last updated May 26, 2011).
The Baron on YouTube
My alter ego, Baron Heinrich von Hosenscheisser 3rd, has decided to start a YouTube channel. Life will not be the same again.
Oz anime permanent price reductions!
The good folks at Madman have announced some permanent price reductions on selected Australian anime titles. Sure, these ones have been around for a while, but saving some money is a good thing, right
Some US anime titles which you might have missed
One of the challenges when you have a web site which contains a lot of titles is that many of the good ones tend to get buried amongst all the dross. I presently have about 1,800 US anime DVDs listed, along with about 900 Australian ones. The following list is non-hentai titles which are not available in Australia, but which I should still be able to get from the US. Happy hunting!
