One more chance, one more time
A tale of two people, Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. They become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of letters. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again as the tale embarks on Takaki's realization of the world and people around him.

This one was a pleasant surprise. A simple but very thought-provoking concept told across three short vignettes. While there is not all that much to
the story aside for some internal monologue and thoughts, it managed to resonate strongly about the ideas of individuals, individuality, the desire to
form relationships with others, and the impact of separation through the passage of time. It appealed on an emotional level and I was quickly drawn
into the simplicity of the story, yet how true it felt in reality - very different to many other titles I've seen where there has always been an
element of fantasy and belief could be suspended. The visual elements are a strong contributor to telling the story and were pleasant to watch as the
art is simple and focuses on the real world. The attention to detail is very impressive from scenery and locations the characters populated; and
there were a lot of visual abstractions and symbology to reinforce the themes told in the story. Audio was a good DD 2.0 mix with both Japanese and
English dialogue. I stuck, as is my preference, with the Japanese dialogue as the authenticity didn't quite get conveyed in my view with the English
version. The music wasn't overly memorable, but it worked when required and contributed to the overall ambience of the story. Overall, this is
enjoyable if one is in the right frame of mind to watch it - good for relaxing and not getting too wound up in it. The story is serious and deep, and
does require some concentration to appreciate the subtleties and nuances. It doesn't overwhelm the senses, but I did come away from it with a sense
of loss and sadness that inevitably comes when one is separated from others - it resonates that well. Strongly recommended for those who want to take
a strong dose of reality with their anime fare and a refreshing change from the fantastic worlds that anime is reputed.

Some US anime titles which you might have missed

search_databaseOne of the challenges when you have a web site which contains a lot of titles is that many of the good ones tend to get buried amongst all the dross. I presently have about 1,800 US anime DVDs listed, along with about 900 Australian ones. The following list is non-hentai titles which are not available in Australia, but which I should still be able to get from the US. Happy hunting!
